Summer Supper: A Feast for the Senses
Dine alfres(h)co. Take away the walls and windows, the kitchen table or island. Replace with fresh air and outdoor dining—seated, perhaps, next to the herbs that garnish your salad. The smell of those homegrown herbs and the taste of tomatoes and grilled summer vegetables are to be enjoyed every possible opportunity and savored.
We’ve selected summer recipes from Anna Thomas’s book Vegan Vegetarian Omnivore: Dinner for everyone at the table. She calls it “My Perfect Summer Supper.” We claim it as ours, too.
Longtime Ojai, California, resident Anna Thomas wrote the iconic cookbook The Vegetarian Epicure while still a student at UCLA, followed by its two sequels and Love Soup. Her newest book, Vegan Vegetarian Omnivore: Dinner for everyone at the table (W. W. Norton & Co., 2016), was released in April.
